Our founder
Barrington Roy Schiller , the British entrepreeur
and social activist has spent most of his life quietly engaged in
doing good works and promoting humanitarian causes while reaching the dizzy
heights of the business world.

humanitarian closet and started to make his activities more public by
engaging and motivating others around the world to join him in his
humanitarian works and he founded the Noblesse Oblige in Action groups
Internatioanlly and was also appointed as the CEO of Snahalaya Ashram which
had been formed with in 1985 with the main objective of improving and
developing the cultural,socio-economic and educational status of the
deprieved Islanders and the weaker section of the society of Andaman and
Nicobar Islands and other parts of India before the tsanami which devastated
the Andaman Nicobar Islands and the Ashram .
In 1996 the society was registered under the Indian Societies
registration Act 1860 as a non-profit, non-political and non-communal,
social, economical, educational and cultural organization. Its aims
are to eradicate and liberate deprived people from the bondage of
socio-economic poverty globally and to combat the backwardness of the tribal
and poor people of the Indian Andaman Nicobar Islands and other parts of
India.
Snahalaya Ashram now presently focuses its activities mainly on South
Andaman and on various Southern parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and
in particular on selected villages in the Tsunami affected areas and after
the Tsunami on the Islands we adopted families and provided relief and
intermediate shelters at first followed by permanent houses (still under
progress).
However after the founder not being able to convince Barrington that the
regulations regarding the not for profit status were being adhered to and
that irregularities such as the issuing of Doctor titles and the ordination
of clergy by the Ashram's founder would not bring Barrington's good name
into disrepute Barrington broke away from Snahalaya and resigned as their
CEO in 2011 to dedicate himself to forming a new Ashram or in fact one
Ashram in each country where those seeking peace and harmony on a permanent
basis and those seeking a
spiritual retreat, place of study and application of Ancient eastern and
western metaphysical, mystical and paranormal learning could find the path
they were seeking while vacationing from their normal day day life.
He set
about
collecting the most eminent teachers and planners to educate the paying
guests we invite to join us for a stay and arranged to throwing teh doors
open to those who wished to be full members of the Ashram and
render selfless service
to mankind
while living a life of peace and harmony with the environment and universe
while bringing help to orphans and needy children by providing
benefits such as education, food, shelter, water, health and total
sanitation solutions to the poor giving them adequate support to make
them self dependent.
Barrington's Ashram was created with the belief that sensitization to the
needs, aspirations, capabilities and potential of the poor can play a
positive role in strengthening the economic, education and cultural
efforts that are vital to the progress of human advancement and
understanding and thatit is the dutyof those more able to help the less
fortunate . In order to meet and overcome the challenges poised by
different forms of inter related social problems the Ashram focuses
on the study of problems from the grass root level and seeks ways and means
to find a solution for the betterment and upliftment of the deprived
sections of society.
Since its inception for the benefit of the poor it has organized a
series of meetings and workshops as a grass root level NGO and has
motivated people with its limited resources to organize themselves to
undertake works on a self help basis while attempting to introduce
government and other agencies to join hands with the people to achieve a
long term-sustainable atmosphere in the community.
